ReLeaf Michigan’s 17th Biennial
Michigan Big Tree Hunt Contest is back!

Michigan’s biggest trees are waiting to be discovered—and now entering is easier than ever!

From August 4, 2026 through August 11, 2028, anyone can search for large trees, measure them, and submit discoveries below! 

 Printable Entry Form – Useful for capturing your tree data while exploring! Once completed, submit your information online below or mail in!

Measure distance around the trunk at 4 1/2 ft above ground. If the trunk splits below 4 1/2 ft, measure at the narrowest point between the split and the ground.

BIG TREE HUNT RULES

• Tree must be living and accessible for verification. • Tree size is determined by circumference (measurement around trunk). • All entries must be postmarked or submitted online by the end of the contest AUGUST 11, 2028 Please note: Trees already listed in the Michigan Big Tree Register before the contest begins and trees that were winners in the 2023-2025 contest cycle are not eligible for prizes.
