Tree Planting Application

ReLeaf Michigan only plants trees on public property or property available to the public. Our plantings are a collaboration between a group of organizations, volunteers, the communities in which trees are being planted, a funding source, and ReLeaf Michigan.
Why organize a neighborhood tree planting?
  • For every four urban trees removed, only one is typically replanted.
  • Trees cool and clean the air, provide health benefits (such as less stress and improved mood), increase the economic value of neighborhoods, mute city noises, store carbon dioxide, provide habitat for wildlife, slow and reduce water run off, and display nature’s beauty year-round.
  • Volunteers learn how to choose, plant and maintain trees.
  • Participants can help improve their community with lasting results.
What would you have to do?
  • Organize a group or find an existing organization (Block Club, Service Organization, Scout Troop, etc.) which would like to be involved and could:
  • Help with the actual planting by providing two adult volunteers per tree on planting day.
  • Provide the name of the municipal representative responsible for trees.
  • Select a potential site and complete the application.
  • A typical planting is 20 1.5" caliper trees which costs approximately $4000 when including delivery. The organization would cover 50% up to $2000.
What will ReLeaf Michigan Do?
  • Meet with your organization and representatives from the community to discuss the planting project.
  • Review the site and jointly select the type of trees to be planted.
  • We will secure a signed three year maintenance agreement with the community.
  • Arrange for the purchase and delivery of the trees. (Trees are guaranteed disease-free, but we do not guarantee their survival.)
  • Provide 50% of the funding for trees/delivery up to $2000.
  • Provide marketing materials that can be used to secure volunteers and publicize the planting.
  • Provide volunteer training and technical assistance in organizing your planting event and on planting day.

    Max file size: 20MB
We are happy to accept applications year round. In order to ensure we have enough time to prepare, we take applications for spring plantings from November to February and applications for fall plantings from April to July.
A three-year maintenance agreement identifying who will be responsible for watering and mulching the trees in the three years following the planting must be signed before the trees are purchased.
