Who We Are
ReLeaf Michigan is a statewide volunteer non-profit 501(c)(3) tree planting and education organization.
Making Michigan Healthier, One Tree at a Time, Since 1988
ReLeaf Michigan is Michigan’s only statewide tree planting non-profit organization, working with communities and organizations throughout Michigan to protect and restore our urban tree canopies.
Our mission is to educate the public on the value of trees and how to properly select, plant, and maintain them.
Founded by some of the most respected arborists in the state and building on lifetimes of green expertise, ReLeaf Michigan plants the Right Tree in the Right Place at the Right Time for the Right Purpose to ensure each tree thrives for generations to come.
33,500 Trees in More than 700 Communities
ReLeaf Michigan has worked with over 700 communities across the state. Working with community volunteers, we have planted more than 33,500 trees on public property in Michigan’s cities, townships, and villages.
Unlike most other volunteer-driven tree planting organizations, ReLeaf Michigan plants trees that are already substantial in size, approximately six-feet tall and 1.5″ to 2″ trunk caliper, resulting in much higher rates of survival and a more immediate environmental impact.

Statement of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
ReLeaf Michigan is dedicated to providing equitable access to community forests (trees) in diverse communities across Michigan regardless of social, economic, political, racial, or religious status. We believe that the benefits of trees should be available to every Michigan resident. We are committed to addressing the inequitable separation of people from nature, by working to correct disparities in urban tree canopy cover in various geographic regions across the state.
ReLeaf Michigan strives to cultivate a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace while acknowledging that our primary workplace is within the communities that we serve. Only by working together with all of Michigan’s communities and residents to replenish the state’s urban tree canopy will we maximize the potential environmental, health, social, and economic benefits our urban forests can provide.
